The CNPS Vegetation Program
Julie Evens will provide a talk regarding the California Native Plant Society’s Vegetation Program plus photo excerpts from a signature book published a few years ago about our state’s incredible diversity of vegetation, including a spectrum of common and rare vegetation assemblages. Julie is the Vegetation Program Director of CNPS, in which she maintains standard methods for surveying, classifying, and mapping vegetation in California. She provides public workshops on vegetation surveying and mapping. She works collaboratively with agencies and CNPS chapters on vegetation assessment
projects, including current projects in the Bay Area, Mojave and Sonoran Deserts, Sierra Nevada foothills, North Coast, among other regions. She is a coauthor with John Sawyer and Todd Keeler-Wolf of the second edition of A Manual of California Vegetation, and she is a co-author with Michael Barbour et al. of California’s Botanical Landscapes: A Pictorial View of the State’s Vegetation. She also helped compile the first edition of the CNPS Fire Recovery Guide. Julie has a M.A. degree from Humboldt State University, and she holds two B.A. degrees from the University of California–Santa Cruz. Before CNPS, She has worked as an ecologist and botanist for federal and state agencies including the National Park Service, US Geological Survey, University of California, and Department of Fish & Game. She has worked for CNPS since April 2001.
