CNPS San Luis Obispo Chapter’s

HOOVER AWARD

In Recognition of Distinguished Service

The Hoover Award was established by the San Luis Obispo (SLO) Chapter in 1973 to recognize a member who has made a significant contribution to the success and well-being of the Chapter. The member is recognized for volunteering time and energy to the local chapter in support of the CNPS mission; for providing consistent and continual long-term service to the Chapter; for contributing to the appreciation and understanding of San Luis Obispo and/or Northern Santa Barbara County flora; for supporting the SLO Chapter membership and activities, and improving the Chapter’s offerings. Selection of the Hoover Award Recipient is made at a yearly meeting of the past recipients.

The award’s namesake is Dr. Robert F. Hoover, co-founder of the CNPS SLO Chapter. Dr. Hoover is also the author of The Vascular Plants of San Luis Obispo County, CA (1970), which represented the culmination of his botanical work. He founded the herbarium that now bears his name at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo.

Both a list of all Hoover Award Recipients and a short summary of their accomplishments for the Chapter are provided below.
