Join us for an all-day outing to Big Sur.
Beginning at the saddle of Nacimiento-Fergusson Rd. in the Big Sur coastal mountains (36.009887, -121.452423), from the saddle we will travel six miles by bicycle to the Cone Peak trailhead (36.042426, -121.483783), from there travel 2.2 miles on foot to the top (5,154 ft.). This outing has a 1,000 ft. elevation gain throughout the bike section and a 1,400 ft. gain throughout the hike section. The return will follow the same route.
Botanically, this area has several plants of interest, including the rare Santa Lucia Fir (RPR 1B.3), Sugar Pine (very rare on the Central Coast), and Hoover’s manzanita (RPR 4.3), only found in the Big Sur mountains.
To reach the Nacimiento-Fergusson Rd. saddle, we will need to depart San Luis Obispo by 8:00 am, and Cambria by 8:45 am.
