Family Sketch and Plant Hike – Three Bridges Preserve

It’s the Fall season at Three Bridges Oak Preserve in Atascadero. Some plants are still blooming but most are getting ready for winter. Leaves are turning colors (poison oak especially!), insects are building cocoons, and the restless birds are starting to migrate elsewhere or they are arriving at our mild-weathered coast from locations that get cold winters. They need extra fuel for that and can be found pecking through the oak forests. The weather is cooler and more pleasant. This is an easy loop trail where we’ll stop and draw and name a few plants and their leaves, acorns, bark and anything else we find. It’s aimed at 5-10 year olds, but all are welcome. Art materials are provided and you can take your sketchbook home.
Bring water, snacks, sunscreen, hat, sturdy shoes, and dress in layers for changing weather. A plant list for Three Bridges Oak Preserve can be found on our website here. There are no bathroom facilities along the hike route. Rain or threat of rain cancel or postpone this trip.
