CANCELLED – iNaturalist Outdoor Workshop #2

March 11, 2013 @ 9:00 am - March 11, 2023 @ 12:00 pm

THIS EVENT HAS BEEN CANCELLED AGAIN DUE TO RAIN. WE WILL LET YOU KNOW OF NEW DATE. In this outdoor workshop at Bishop Peak Natural Reserve, City of San Luis Obispo, we will discuss the use of iNaturalist as an online community to record, share, and discuss observations of life on Earth and practice recording observations. This is a followup training to the January 28 iNaturalist workshop #1, however, you do not need to have attended that workshop to attend this one because basics of using iNat will be reviewed at the beginning. Then we will hike 2.6 miles on the Felsman Loop trail with an elevation gain of 560 feet and practice using iNat including a focus on how to use iNat’s unique features to help identify plants. Flowering plants recently posted on iNat in the reserve include shooting star and California peony.

Meet at the Patricia Street Trailhead (near 890 Patricia Drive, 35.3046, -120.6854). Parking is along the roadside. Bring your cellphone, note-taking supplies, water, snacks, hat, sturdy shoes, and dress in layers for weather. A plant list for Bishop Peak Open Space can be found on our website at https://cnpsslo.org/resources/finding-plants-in-the-wild/

Please visit https://www.inaturalist.org/ for an introduction to iNaturalist. Ahead of this workshop, we recommended you create an iNaturalist account by downloading either the Android app at Google Play or Apple app at Apple.com. However, a mobile device is not absolutely necessary for use of this site

Rain or threat of rain cancels.
