CANCELLED – Pismo Preserve Hike

THIS HIKE HAS BEEN CANCELLED DUE TO RAINY WEATHER AND CLOSED MUDDY TRAILS

Due to rain/muddy trails this event changed to NEW DATE NOVEMBER 22, 2025 event as a hike at the Pismo Preserve starting at 9:30 am with a focus on manzanitas. Join us for a hike in the back hills of this Preserve with a rugged landscape and spectacular views of the Pacific Ocean. We will explore the upper reaches of the Preserve, traversing areas of coastal sage scrub, maritime chaparral, and oak woodland, including a visit to two manzanita species (Arctostaphylos pilosula and A. crustacea). This outing is 3.5 miles in length, with a gradual 1,000 ft. elevation gain, lasting 2.5 hours. Meet in the Pismo Preserve parking lot (35.151551, -120.653096). More parking is available at the intersection of Price St. and Mattie Rd. (35.149972, -120.653628), a five-minute walk from the trailhead.

Note that there is now a $5.00 PARKING FEE at the preserve parking lot. See details here (scroll down) about ways to pay the fee onsite or buying an annual pass. We recommend carpooling with your friends. For a Carpool Option meet at the east side of the Whole Foods parking lot along LOVR at 9:10 am (35.251061, -120.686966)

Bring water, snacks, sunscreen, hat, sturdy shoes, and dress in layers for changing weather.  A plant list for the Pismo Preserve can be found on our website here. There are bathroom facilities at the preserve parking lot. Rain, threat of rain, or recent rain (due to muddy trails) cancel this trip.
