Local botanists Kristen Nelson and Dena Grossenbacher will lead a field workshop to help biologists improve their plant keying skills. Participants will key plants in serpentine meadows at Laguna Lake Park in the City of San Luis Obispo to family, genus and species categories using either the Jepson Manual or Dr. David Keil’s new edition of the Vascular Plants of San Luis Obispo County, California. This is an intermediate-level workshop – participants should have a working knowledge of plant taxonomy and keying. Advanced registration is required with ticket cost of $35. Fee waivers will be available upon request based on need. Limited to 25 participants. Bring a hand lens (10x magnification recommended), field notebook, and if possible, the new SLO flora. Loaner copies of the new Keil/Hoover flora will be available at the workshop courtesy of Cal Poly Botany Department. Rain or threat of rain cancels. Workshop organizers will email registered participants with details.
