THIS EVENT HAS BEEN RESCHEDULED TO SATURDAY AUGUST 17. Join us to discover Point Sal, one of the hidden gems of the Central Coast located in the hills south of the town of Guadalupe in northern Santa Barbara County, California. This will be Manzanita Hike #11 for our chapter. From the trailhead, we will hike to the top of the ridge where we will see three manzanita species growing side-by-side: the brittle leaf manzanita (Arctostaphylos crustacea), the La Purisima manzanita, (Arctostaphylos purissima, CA Rare Plant Rank 1B.1), and the sand mesa manzanita (Arctostaphylos rudis, CA Rare Plant Rank 1B.2). From there we will walk along the ridgetop to a magnificent 180-degree ocean view. For those who want to continue the hike down to the beach along a sandy steep road, you will complete that portion of the hike apart from the group.
Total hike distance is 6.0 miles with an elevation gain of 750 feet and a duration of 3 hours. Bring water, snacks, hat, sturdy shoes, and dress in layers for changing weather, especially wind. There are no bathroom facilities along the hike route.
The trailhead is located at the west end of Brown Road west of Highway 1 and south of the city of Guadalupe. (34.912055, -120.618120).
