New Book Release – Vascular Plants of San Luis Obispo County

After 33 years, the Vascular Plants of San Luis Obispo County has been revised by retired Cal Poly professor David Keil. Join Pacific Street Publishing Company and Dr. Keil in this book release and get your own signed copies. Field trips are scheduled to celebrate this momentous event and practice new information and taxonomic changes.
The Vascular Plants of San Luis Obispo County, California was originally published in 1970 by Robert F. Hoover. Per the publisher, Dr. David Keil has created an updated second edition with over 2,000 plant species described and 600 color photos of plant communities and native plant species. This complete botanical reference book covers over 3,600 square miles of San Luis Obispo County, California—a biodiversity hotspot with complex geology, varied topography, and nearly one hundred miles of coastline. The county is home to a remarkable diversity of plant life, now all referenced in the user-friendly identification keys, botanical descriptions, and detailed ranges.
To celebrate, Cal Poly will be sponsoring these botanical field trips April 6th to April 8th and a book signing [ NOTE – THESE FIELD TRIPS ARE ALL FULL BUT THE BOOK SIGNING ON SATURDAY EVENING IS STILL OPEN FOR RSVP]:
- Thursday, April 6th, 2023, Arroyo De la Cruz and North Coast SLO County, field trip led by Dave Keil.
- Friday, April 7th, 2023, the serpentine hills of SLO, field trip led by Dave Keil, Jenn Yost and Matt Ritter. Join the Cal Poly field botany class
- Saturday, April 8th, 2023, Shell Creek and Carrizo Plain, field trip led by Dave Keil.
- Saturday Evening, April 8th, 2023, Cal Poly Conservatory, open house at new conservancy, book release, and book signing of The Vascular Plants of San Luis Obispo Co., Second Edition.
